Home | Services | Crown Reduction

Crown reduction is reducing the overall size of the tree while trying to maintain the best shape possible. All branches are cut back to suitable growth points which allow the pruned limbs to continue growing.

A crown reduction is not a pollard. Pollarding is the removal of all growth back to a set point. Pollarding is not a practice commonly used and is only appropriate to certain species of tree.

A crown reduction is generally used when a tree has got too large for the area in which it is growing. It can be used to allow more light into gardens or houses. The amount of a crown reduction will be specified in either metres or as a percentage.
