Crown Thinning

Crown thinning is the removal of a percentage of the internal crown (middle) to allow more light to pass though the canopy of the tree. It is often used to improve light through a tree where a crown reduction is not possible. A crown reduction is also specified in percentages ranging from 15-30%.

Crown thinning is a good alternative to a crown reduction as it maintains a tree which already has a good shape.

Crown Reduction

Crown reduction is the reduction of the crown starting from the crown break (where the braches start), up to the tip of the branches.

Crown reductions are usually specified in meters or in a percentage (i.e. 20% or perhaps 30%). Usually the maximum a tree should be crown reduced by is 30%. This is approximately one third of the crown's total area.

A crown reduction is usually used to keep a tree in good shape and condition. It may allow a large tree to maintained within a smaller space and in addition allow light around the crown.

Tree Felling

Tree felling is the complete removal of a tree. Trees are often removed if they are creating a problem or become too big for the surrounding area. It is very important to consider some key facts when having a tree removed:

All these points should be taken into account before having a tree removed. We would be happy to answer any question that you might have so do not hesitate to contact for further help and advice on any aspect of tree felling.

Hedge Trimming

Keeping hedges in check is a important part of our work. Some hedges have to be maintained yearly in order to stop them taking up valuable space. Hedges should ideally be trimmed in September when there are no nesting birds this also allows for the maximum to be got out of the hedge before it will need to be done again.

Most hedge trimming needs to be done annually to keep them maintained to a good standard . This may seem like a costly process but leavening a hedge to grow and grow will end up more costly in the long run as it takes longer to restore the hedge back to shape.

Stump Grinding

Stump grinding is the removal of the tree stump and does not include the side lateral roots unless specified. Woodchip from the stump grinding is removed from site and the area is raked level.
